Bet you, or your ancestors if you were not born yet, could have said a lot of what you just said about Japan in 1960s? Or the Chinese said about your ancestors in late 1700 until early 1800?

Well, I was born in 1952 so remember very well when "made in Japan" was not a selling point.

But inside Japan there has always been a culture of excellence. The crappy things were export goods, you could buy well made things if you knew where to look. Wonderful things, marvellous things.

PRC is like Russia. They killed off all the entrepreneurs and intellectuals, and now the closest thing they have to entrepreneurs is gangsters.

It takes generations to learn skills, you start out as a child learning it from your grandparents and their contemporaries.
