In my view he sees the US as a defeated nation, on the ropes in Iraq and increasingly marginal in the region. I further believe that he sees Israel as becoming increasingly vulnerable, shielded by nuclear weapons and US support. Once he has nukes, the balance of nuclear terror is neutralized. Combined with his view that the US is increasingly impotent in the region, I think he sees Iran as the emerging dominant power as well as the political leader of the region. Iran has been an enormous beneficiary of the invasion of Iraq. He thinks we are idiots and is all too happy to cash in on our stupidity. He does not care what we think of him because in his view he holds the trump card -- he is the leader of the regions most powerful nation, and he sees himself growing more powerful by the day.
