MONTREAL - Oct. 8, 1997--NHC Communications Inc. (NHC), a leading international manufacturer of Switching and Fiber Optic Solutions announced the successful completion of final testing on its Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) matrix chip (SX88).
The SX88 chip will be integrated into NHC's switching applications which will be deployed as the optimal solution to managing network downtime.
"The SX88 chip was built on a Gallium Arsenide technical platform due to its superior characteristics at very high frequency operations," said Marc Bohbot, Director of Engineering at NHC. "Offering some of the most advanced capabilities on the market, the SX88 chip will be integrated into NHC's existing switching products, increasing overall performance of our switching solutions. Furthermore, the chip will be the foundation of a product platform supporting higher bandwidth and large matrix sizes," added Bohbot.
The integration of this technology will allow NHC's line of switching solutions to exchange data signals at frequency rates of several hundred Megahertz, thus extending performance and scalability within NHC's family of switching products. Current solutions are crippled in terms of the size and scope of applications. NHC's new chip positions the Corporation with the capability to build category 5 standard and higher physical switching products, in addition to solutions supporting higher speeds such as ATM. Competitively priced, the bi-directional 8X8 analog matrix chip supports bandwidth applications from DC to 700MHz, and offers integrated control logic driven directly with CMOS levels. With this new technological foundation in place, R&D efforts at NHC are making significant headway with further developing new chips and maintaining a cutting edge within this evolving market.
"Development of the SX88 chip has significantly enhanced our current switching solutions and represents an integral element of our corporate product direction," commented Sylvain Abitbol, President and CEO. "Strategic foresight and calculated focus over the past two and a half years, have provided NHC with the necessary key to redefine future switching technology," added Abitbol.
The SX88 is the latest addition to NHC's high-performance cross-connect switching family. Eliminating the need to manually direct physical LAN and/or WAN connections. NHC's family of electronic switches deliver a proactive approach to managing your networks through the provision of automated control and management options of all cross-connections.
Solutions oriented, NHC products can be integrated into a wide range of applications, including desktop video, resource sharing, fall-back switching for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), security, and moves, adds and changes (MACs).
It is estimated that the world-wide number of MACs in 1997 will amount to 20 million connections. This number is expected to grow to 25 and 31 million connections in 1998/99, respectively. The majority of these connections are still performed manually today. Performing automated MACs and optimizing network time is a lucrative market which NHC is strongly poised to address with a line of mixed media, high-speed cross-connect electronic switching products integrating the new SX88 chip.
NHC Communications Inc. (TSE sym: NHC) vision is to be a leading developer of products that increase the competitive edge of its customers by applying innovative technology approaches to the delivery of high-speed mixed media switched access and transmission networks. A sample of a few current NHC world-wide Fortune 500 customers include, American Express, Shell Oil, A.T. & T, Allstate Insurance, Exxon, IBM, Sprint and BBN, one of the world's largest Internet Service Providers.
