The key would be if Apple can work with Amazon to make it easy for Amazon's service to provide content for an iPod. Question is, will Apple be smart enough to figure that out, and Amazon too?

Amazon has already done this. After downloading a song, it immediately shows up on iTunes (and I believe Windows Media as well). The cool part was later going downstairs and also having the song available on my Xbox 360. I wouldnt have had that if I had downloaded it through iTunes.
