Years ago, when our boys were growing up, we had a knock down with two of the Little League coaches on just those issues. One of our sons was/and still is, a great athlete. However the coach favored him over others. We had something to say about that to the coach! Another son was good, but not as good as others on his team....sorta a middle of the roader on sports. That coach usually only let the front line play, unless the kids were going to win for sure. We had something to say to him as well.

the message is not about competition, it's a distorted emphasis on winning. It's up to coaches to make sure parents understand this isn't about winning at all costs, but about giving each child a chance to be part of a team and to do his best.
