Whatever his motivation, it looked mean spirited and ugly to me. He played right into the hands of the anti-israel folks. Jews led the protests either to his speaking and/or to what his holocaust denial and zap israel message. I dont by the hitler comparison either. If it were bin laden, i would. If it were pol pot, i would. If it were Stalin or Mao, i would. But ahmadijad is not responsible for millions of dead. Being against israel or supporting hizbolla is not enough for him to get in that group.
