CMGI is the most misunderstood company, even by their own management.

It has supply chain software, which landed a new company for growth in the Xmas season(customers are all consumer oriented even HP). So summer quarter is not indicative of the supply chain software business overall, in all four quarters.

The venture part is all dependent on venture capital industry, where most participants have profits to burn. And selling parts of original investment for gains is easy to do. The business here is to invest little, incubate and sell parts to other venture capitalist.

The valuation of Venture is how many partners CMGI has in each investment? And how much they are willing to pay to buy out CMGI?

Having said all that, the management has to be weekly contacted; same as Von Rock associates had to have weekly board meeting at Intel and Apple(every Tuesday, so the rest of the week is not lost) to put constant pressure on management to prevent slip ups if monthly meeting are not quick enough to chase in the new business.
