Metromedia Unit's Georgian Venture Launches Service

STAMFORD, Conn. (Dow Jones)--Metromedia International
Telecommunications Inc.'s Georgian cellular telephone joint venture, Magticom GSM, launched service in Tblisi, Georgia.

Metromedia International Telecommunications is a unit of Metromedia
International Group Inc. (MMG)

In a press release Wednesday, the company said the venture will operate GSM 900-Megahertz band services in all major Georgian cities by the end of the year.

Additional sites will be added in 1998.

Magticom GSM is a joint venture between Telcell Wireless and two private Georgian companies, Magti Ltd. and G-Com Ltd. Telcell Wireless is a limited liability company formed by Metromedia International and Western Wireless International, a unit of Western Wireless Corp. (WWCA).

GSM, or global system for mobile communication, is a cellular standard.

Metromedia International Group is a communications, media and
entertainment company.
