Consumer Reports: Apple the most unreliable major laptop brand, even worse than Gateway see page 47 of latest issue (November 2007).*
CR shows Apple has the worst reliability of eight major laptop makers from 2003-2007. this, despite Apple being the most expensive brand.
it's not easy or cheap to be an elitist Apple user!
this incredible unreliability is consistent with my experience. i never had a problem with a Toshiba notebook over 15 years of use. in one year of Macbook use, i had to send the piece of junk back to Apple several times.
on the other hand, fortunately Apple has far and away the best customer support--which is good, because the poor reliability of Apple products means frequent calls to customer support.
also on the other hand, despite Apple's terrible quality control and annoying precious pseudo-artiste image which is assiduously cultivated by the poseurs in Cupertino (including, of course, Chief Executive Poseur Steve Jobs), it is much easier to use than PCs and i am a full convert.
if you just go by the charts in CR, the best combination of reliability (Lenovo best, Apple worst) and customer service (Lenovo second best, after Apple) would lead one to favor Lenovo. perhaps the Apple CEP should just license OS X to Lenovo in order to improve overall user experience. |
