But there is also tons more stuff being produced... just the population growth insures that, but also there IS more stuff. Problem is most all of it is being built in Asia.

I don't have the numbers, but I would bet worldwide manufacturing employment has increased dramatically over the last 20 years. While US manufacturing employment imploded.
