Ok, about Gold it did appreciate, I agree to some extent. But looking at the price of crude, commodities, cost for services performed like in medical, tuition/education etc... in a nutshell , the purchasing power of dollar has depreciated a lot more, IMHO.

About Japanese yen, if you look at the chart for example 2 years, five years, it is almost flat. If there wasn't much intervention by the Japanese CB, it should have been much higher against Dollar and Euro. again imo.

Is the recent rise of Euro related to Saudi Arabia abandoning the policy of following US on interest rates? Is this an indication of possibly crude being priced in other currencies in the future? As everyone knows here, they didn't follow US and lower the rates this time, after Bernanke lowered by 50 basis points on Sept 18th.
