I was only stating the facts of life right now. The cost to build is $200+/ft.
Van Isle is a bit cheaper, Whistler is more like $300 for the same thing.
I don't get it either as lumber hasn't moved much.
and labour, well has taken a carpenter from $25 - $30-35hr in the past ten years.
Not very good.
But other costs such as new more stringent building codes, metals commodity priced construction goods, fuel costs etc etc are all going up and as long as India and China etc continue to want a new home, a computer, a TV, a new car, and a new Mac shack to drive it to, --- well I think the pressure will remain.
Having said that, yes things here in BC <except Whistler> have been on a tear over the past four years. I'm sure it will settle out soon.
Possibly around 2009 and a half.
