Lizzie -

I once washed an old IBM keyboard in the dishwasher, making sure not to use the heated dry setting. I then let it air dry for two days, plugged it in, and it worked like a charm.

I would not guarantee that it would work with all modern keyboards. They're not terribly expensive, though, so you could always try it.

I am typing this on a new Apple aluminum keyboard. I really like it, even though I wasn't sure about it when I tried it at the store. It has some new keys and extra functionality when used with a Mac.

You can use F7 through F9 to control iTunes playback, F10 through F12 to control speaker volume, F3 to activate Expose, and so on. As soon as I plugged it in, Software Update started automatically and told me I need to install Keyboard Software 1.2. I clicked OK, and a minute later all the extra keys were working. Pretty cool.
