FWIW - after a long discussion with a good friend who runs a value fund, I thought I'd pass along the following:

1) He thinks that I'm too bearish and a bit too late to short the market.

2) He doesn't believe that the Fed will let the economy seize up.

3) U.S. assets now look cheaper to foreign investors.

4) The real contrarian trade is to go long CFC and other financials.

5) Retail will be weak, but the stocks should not be shorted because many of the higher quality retailers have enough cash on hand to do buybacks and effectively restructure.

I haven't changed any of my positions but I have much thinking to do over the weekend.
