Re: True, but only because Intel failed to stop Via from selling a DDR chipset!

A harmful monopoly would have succeeded.

Re: Intel tried to get a restraining order Via because they said Via did not have a bus license

And you think was wrong of Intel to do so? Why put your assumption forth that Intel is the bad guy, and that VIA is trying to protect their market? If this were the case, how could Intel hope to be able to go to court and "force" VIA to obtain a license? Such reasoning, while prevalent among AMD investors, has never made sense to me.

Re: Look, there's absolutely no question that AMD's success has had
a hugely positive impact on consumers, and a hugely negative
effect on Intel's overall profits and profit margins. To suggest otherwise
is laughable.

I am not suggesting that AMD has had no effect. I'm questioning whether or not Intel is a harmful monopoly. You and many others would like to phrase your answer to suggest that Intel *would be* a harmful monopoly without AMD, or that AMD has helped to benefit consumers. There's no question that the industry benefits from competition, but if Intel is a harmful monopoly, then they will have had to prevent natural competition from taking place. I think it is equally laughable for people to suggest that there is no healthy competition in the PC microprocessor market, and it's due to Intel being a harmful monopoly.
