Roger: Re: year end selling and tax implications ...

I'm probably an atypical investor, but here's my philosophy ...

My "gambling" funds are in an IRA or other tax advantaged account, where I can buy and sell like mad with little regard for (current) tax implications.

My "long" positions are in standard cash accounts where I can play the long term capital gains game with them.

The above crude setup works fine for me and my investing discipline (or lack thereof).

Unfortunately, I started buying BROC in one of my gambling (tax-advantaged) accounts when I first heard about it here on SI. By the time I understood what BROC was and what to expect from it, I had accumulated it for several weeks. So, now I have a large holding, expecting to hold it for some time. This is contrary to my normal "gambling" philosophy for that account. But, I have no fear of selling BROC any time it pokes its head above an imaginary profit line.

Fortunately for the rest of the BROC investors, if I decided to sell all of my holdings it wouldn't affect the price (much) ... unless I dumped it all on one day. A foolhardy act that even this inexperienced investor wouldn't try to do. (been there, done that, and learned not to do it again ... ouch!).

Anyway, I agree with Chris that there could be some year end exposure. Hopefully by that time, we'll be at 6 or 7, so a little burp won't hurt much.

Go BROC !!!

Regards,

TED
