I think you're confusing cause and effect...

Monopoly commits abuses -> market forces distorted -> undeserved abnormally high marketshare

Eliminate abuse -> market forces restored -> deserved marketshare

A reduction in marketshare is naturally expected when an abusive monopoly's abuses are curtailed. Why is it such a horrible yardstick?

And if the tool to reduce market share is to eliminate illegal abusive behavior, why should a non-abusive monopoly worry?

Why are you, an Intel fan, worried? Are you afraid that it's using some illegal abusive behaviors?
