Bruce Reidel, a former CIA Middle East desk officer, said the neo-conservatives realised their influence would wane rapidly when Mr Bush left office in just over 15 months. "Whatever crazy idea they have to try to transform the Middle East, they have to push now. The real hardline neo-conservatives are getting desperate that the door of history is about to close on them with an epitaph of total failure."

No worries, old lad, whatever the neocons do, they'll never match the CIA's matchless record of failure in the Mideast. Put all the chips on the Saudi alliance, don't worry about bin Laden (look at the nutcase they assigned to catch him - he didn't catch him, he was converted by him! now he's bin Laden's favorite guy!), Johny Walker Lindh could infiltrate Al Qaeda but they couldn't, slam-dunk WMDs in Iraq, and don't ask them what Iran is doing, they haven't got anyone who knows or cares. They have concentrated all their fire on their REAL enemy - George Bush.
