Turkey is Islamic, but not radical. The Greek Orthodox Church is headquartered in Istanbul, something not so likely in Tehran or Baghdad.

Saddam had decent military power back in the Iran war. But that war and the subsequent Desert Storm wiped out his forces. Any time a tank invades your capital city and you send a Toyota pickup to fight it, your military is not substantial.

Islamic fundamentalism is real and will be vibrant as long as the common folks are held down by the rulers of these countries. And, as long as we support the downpressors, we will be a target of militants. We have to both fight the militants and we have to change our evil, or, more to the point, convenient ways of dealing with smaller countries. Where Bush got it wrong is that he thinks it is a war. And now he is losing becuase it really was a police matter. He used a sledge hammer to do a scalpel's job.
