PRELIMINARY THIRD QUARTER RESULTS AND CORPORATE RESTRUCTURING

ÿÿ CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1997--Trikon
Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:TRKN), an international supplier of etch
and deposition equipment used to manufacture semiconductors,
Wednesday announced preliminary financial results for the third
quarter ended Sept. 30, 1997, and a significant restructuring of its
business.
ÿÿ For the quarter ended Sept. 30, 1997, Trikon's revenue will be
approximately $12.7 million which will result in an estimated loss
of 70 cents to 75 cents per share.ÿ Trikon will significantly
restructure its business, resulting in a 20 percent reduction in its
workforce, or approximately 115 employees worldwide.
ÿÿ The company announced that Deutch Morgan Grenfell (DMG)
Technology Group has been retained to advise Trikon's board
regarding available strategic alternatives.
ÿÿ Trikon also announced that the Oct. 15 interest payment on the
7 1/8 percent convertible subordinated notes due 2001 has been blocked
by Trikon's bank lenders for 180 days under the indenture governing
the notes.
ÿÿ Trikon Technologies provides a broad line of advanced
manufacturing systems that are used for three of the four major
processing steps in the manufacture of a semiconductor device:ÿ
etch, physical vapor deposition (PVD), and chemical vapor deposition
(CVD).ÿ
