Your particular explanation (seasonal variability) doesn't work well because the observation is over a period of 2 and a half years (and if you cut off the last half year or the first half year to eliminate comparing different parts of the year than the price increase becomes, much smaller, even about zero), but I do think this is due to normal market forces. Do you agree that oil and gasoline prices going up at different rates isn't evidence of something sinister?
