WEST WILL PAY $207 MILLION FOR SPRINT'S CONFERENCING UNIT [NYT 5.10.05]

The West Corporation, which handles calls for clients like AT&T and Microsoft Corp., said yesterday that a unit had agreed to buy the Sprint Corporation's conferencing business for $207 million in cash. West, which is based in Omaha, said its InterCall unit will buy the assets in a deal that is expected to close within 30 days. West, which also agreed to jointly market and sell conferencing services with Sprint, will make more payments to Sprint based on sales. The acquisition is West's fourth in the past year as the company tries to strengthen its operator-assisted conference call service. West said the deal would boost revenue and profit in current year.
