"You absolutely fell for it. You posted MAS texts as if they were a trustly source of known liberals, with no connection to terrorists, when they come out of the very same group that produced Al Qaeda's number two, Ayman al Zawahiri! This is liking posting pleas for racial harmony from David Duke, and telling everybody to take him seriously!
No. I read the Chicago article you posted which seemed to be very critical of the group but it didn't validate your view point. It spoke of the origins which were from fundamentalist groups but clearly showed how those ties and attitudes have been abandoned over time and how the group continues to revise its outlook to take as strong of a stand as possible against radical Islam with emerging info.
I have no connection to the group but the only informed critical source seems to be saying it has evolved to something very Pro-liberty and American ... not at all a front for radical ME groups. I find that to be credible. Afterall lots of good religious culture has evolved from radical starts. American Lutherans (the religion of Hitler) don't seem to be such a bad sort. Anyway, I like some of the one's I've met.
"My reaction to MAS' noble declarations against terrorism is that I wish I could believe them, but I don't. It's taqquiya."
I don't find evidence for that. It was promoted as a grass roots development within America and that is exactly what it appears to me to be. We could probably find a radical tucked in there some place but I bet I could find a 'nuke em all' extremist in the most docile of Christian or Jewish congregations too. You've accused me of taqqiya before too and frankly, I think you abuse the term. But it might be an interesting discussion if you care to reason through it, instead of just beating me about the ears with it.
"The way it works (the Saudis do this too) is that they loudly denounce "terrorism" and "taking of innocent life" in the abstract, but when you get to the fine print, "terrorism" only involves Al Qaeda blowing up fellow Muslims inside Saudi Arabia, or cases like that. When it comes to Hamas blowing up Israelis in Jerusalem, that is not "terrorism", it is "armed resistance" and is entirely legitimate. So I've learned to look for the fine print. You will note that the entire article didn't name even one specific attack to condemn, not even 9/11.
ick. You are correct, they do that and I personally think it is an unjust and corrupted application of religion. Not too unlike the justification some of those same folk use for bombing innocents. |
