P.S., Lorne, Another reason why I love reading stuff which you dig up which originates from the "Mother Land" is that I invariably expand my vocabulary a skoosh when I do. I found 3 unfamiliars in your article... sauve qui peut ----which I learned is French, thanks to AltaVista Babelfish translation... "condign" & "gaol" While context made 2 of the 3 an easy "translation," wordsmith that I am---sans perfect spelling that is---I love looking up vocabular which I don't recognize. And to think that I bucked in fall of '64, buying a new Webster's for Secondary School...for $17 biiiiiiiiig dollars back then. Please bookmark anymore cogent musings from Ambrose Evans- Pritchard on things economic in the colonies. But don't post their existance upon any CNBC blog, okay? They might try to hire Ambrose Evans-Pritchard!!!!.....and there would go the neighborhood. G_T
