In answer to a few emails: interlinking among satellites is not new. It is common among GEOs, and requires that satellite "attitude points" be maintained. Iridium is the first LEO system to employ interlinking.

Also, it would be nice if frequency re-use could be resolved further, yes. There are beam efficiencies that had to be developed for frequency re-use, which is why bandwidth is such an important variable in satellite transmissions. CDMA would go a distance in eliminating the frequency re-use matter. That was another reason for its selection by Loral.
