The argument is simply wrong.
Pricing unit is irrelevant.

If oil was priced in euros it does not change the price in dollars now does it?

If oil was price in YEN does it change the price in Euros, now does it?

If you think it does, please tell me how.
I can quote you a price of oil in any freaking currency you want short of yap island stones.

Does the price of gold change because of what currency it is quoted in? If it did there would immediately be an arb play to take advantage.
