O.k. Peter: Here is the actual transcript of the key phrase, not the Limbaugh edited version. This is right off the Fox News story:

_________________

CALLER 2 (Mike): ...What's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.

LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.

CALLER 2: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they're willing to sacrifice for their country.

______________

So "Mike" refers to unreal soldiers who come out of the blue and talk to the media. Plural. Rush coins the term: The Phony soldiers. Plural. Mike repeats the phrase and contrasts these people with "real soldiers" who "want to be over in Iraq.

Sorry...it is perfectly understandable to read this in the context most people heard it: Old Rush called "soldiers who come out of the blue and talkt to the media (opposing the war)" phoney. Mike didn't refer to people who weren't soldiers. He said "soldiers". If Rush is trying to contrast the actual soldiers with the one guy he named who was not an actual soldier, he sure didn't do a good job of it.

Now he can try to say over and over that he didn't say what he said. He can claim his use of the plural was intended to be singular. Or, he can just admit he made a mistake.

But let's not change history.

And why did he edit the tape on his website if he was so sure of his claims?

The big idiot created this mess...remember Kerry's comments in 2006 that he had to apologize for? Well Rush won't even admit there was the possibility of misunderstanding..so now he gets this thrown against the Republicans. He plays right into the Democrats hands!

For people who actually don't want the Democrats to run everything after next year, guys like Rush and O'Reilly sure don't help much!
