"Iran does not hate America. The theocratic leadership promotes hatred for America as part of their efforts to redirect frustration over Iran's leadership failure. The people of the country are still quite fond of America.

I tend to agree with you to some extent on this Peter. I've spoken to Iranian Americans about this and many of them would agree that Iranians are fond of American culture and liberties. They have the same criticisms you and I would have about Western excesses but are able to see the goodness in American principles of justice and freedom. And they do not see that as a contradiction to their faith in God.

The Mullahs aren't going away. The general population is faithful, so even if you change leadership to something that is friendly to America with more liberal laws, you don't automatically get a secular government void of religious influence.
