Growing up that used to be the right wing argument against FDR. He didnt stop commies in EE. Then truman didnt stop Mao, then the north koreans and chinese in 1950 and so on. This is the genesis of the neocon belief on how great the world would have been if we had stopped the commies early on. And sure if the commies went down with a wimper, it would have been great. But ask the germans about the russians or the american troops in korea about the chinese or our vietnam vets about the the NV and VC. These were fierce enemies who would have fought us to the last man. We would have had to have had unconditional surrender and losses on a scale that stagger the imagination particularly after WW2. The americans who fought WW2 were indeed the greatest generation but to think we would abuse them by sending them off to war again or imbue upon them superhuman characteristics that would take them away from home and family for an indefinite period is down right disgusting.
