Did you have it built, or ordered from a big-box house? The reason I as is that Dell etc. include lots of unnecessary junk applets on their OEM install. I would suggest sticking with plain-vanilla XP methinks, possibly a new install rather than OEM (My main desktop is Ubuntu Linux, my wife's old Win2K runs on it also via VMware).
