Yes. They'e alternative history, but based on real developments in the battle of Gettysburg. During the real battle, Confederate General Pete Longstreet advised Lee to pull back and flank Gettysburg, going around to the south, to cut the union forces off from Washington. He believed that would force them to attack the confederates on better ground chosen by the confederate forces.

That's the premise of Newt's "Gettysburg" Lee takes Longstreet's advice and the battle goes to the confederates.

The other two books build on that. All the action takes place in Pennsylvania and Maryland, and the war is ultimately resolved with a battle along the Maryland side of the Potomac.

Very interesting read. The sequence should be:

Gettysburg
Grant Comes East
Never Call Retreat

Gingrich's Pearl Harbor is not alternative history, but focuses largely on the Japanese motivations for the attack. Also a very interesting read. I expect to pick up "1945" at the library today.
