If you drive a car the car has to be registered and you have to have a license

Rights, privileges - look them up.

I don't see anything wrong with having every gun registered.

I don't see anything right about it - Canada created a registry, cost them millions and not once has it been used to solve a crime - so what's the point?

WHY would a gun owner object to having his/her gun registered if they aren't planning to use it for anything illegal.

Why would you assume they plan to do something wrong - did they not acquire the gun legally?

I wouldn't mind having to register it if it would get some of the other handguns off the street.

This is a stretch - registering your gun does not cause unregistered guns to turn themselves into the police.

I would NOT want anybody telling me that I had to give my gun up. If they did that I would hide the sucker.

So now you plan to be a criminal if they ban guns by keeping yours - how quickly you fell apart on principles. If they became illegal I'd turn mine in because I am a "Law Abiding" citizen first and foremost - that said - I'll fight (and vote) like hell to stop that from happening.

Comparisons to what the Founding Fathers wanted seem absurd

You apparently don't need your other rights because our government could never be corrupted - have you ever taken a history lesson?
