Gasoline is pretty much the same now as it was last year or 50 years ago. There have been changes (most noticeably lead has been dropped), but it isn't more valuable to the particular consumer, at least not to any great extent. Medical care that people get now is much more valuable. I doubt many people would exchange medical care now for the care available back in the 50s or 60s.
