All:

Talked to a Fuji rep today pitching their new digital camera lines. It appears that they have heavily commited to a new technology called the "Smart Media". This device is a solid state flash card type gizmo that is smaller than a matchbox cover. It suposedly was developed and owned by Toshiba. It comes in 2bm and 4mb sizes. The 2mb supposedly holds 22 pictures on high resolution (didn't catch what they considered to be high) and 3o normal. The 2mb version runs around $55 bucks. Here is the interesting part. At the present, they make a PCMCIA adapter for these disks to transfer the images to the 'puter. Supposedly there will be a caddy out in November that works in the 3.5 inch floppy drive. The rep did not have a prototype but showed pictures. These disks are very thin. I was told that many manufactures were adopting this technology such as Olympus, minolta and she listed about 5 others and she went as far as to call the the soon to be standard.

OK, obvious threat to N-hand. Now you techies and research maniacs go out and tell us all what this is about!!!!
