Women, men, and brainpower. C2, you are in luck. Fortunately, the heavy duty lifting has been done and you can, with a single click here: lagriffedulion.f2s.com read all the information and mathematics for yourself. The wonders of cyberspace [which was invented by Al Gore and Vint Cerf with help from the Arpanet blokes - note that they are not women].
Women have about 2.4 lower IQ than men. Meaning, about 45% of the time a randomly selected woman would be smarter than a randomly selected man.
But read some conclusions at the high end of intelligence, where things get more interesting:
< : Checkout the marketplace. In Why g Matters (Intelligence, 24(1), 79–132), Linda Gottfredson estimates that a minimum IQ of 120 is needed to be competitive in "high-level" jobs. She cites research analyst and advertising manager as examples. The problem is that only 37% of the workforce meeting this test will be female. If, Gottfredson is correct, and a 120 IQ is a necessary condition for these jobs, g distributions will impose a soft ceiling on women in industry, not glass but statistical. According to EEOC, in 2003, 35.2% of"officials and managers" in the private sector were female -- a number suspiciously close to 37%. Among federal employees, women held 66% of "management" jobs. But that is a story for another interview.>
What it says is that women are preferentially hired on a sexist basis for federal government jobs, despite them having lower intelligence. Perhaps being compliant, quiet, more civilized or other attributes are considered more important, but I suspect that the hiring is because of sexist bias rather than quality. Women do have characteristics more normally than do men for certain things. They are far less inclined to be thieving violent swine, for example. Count prison populations around the world for evidence. It's mostly males who beat infants and children to death in NZ. Women might let it happen, but they don't actually conduct the attacks so much.
So, now you know that women are less intelligent than men and especially so at the very high-end where the seriously creative and heavy-duty brain-power action is done.
Mq's theory is that it's largely if not totally because of earlier adulthood, meaning fewer development years. I doubt that it's because of testosterone, estrogen etc which are more mood altering than intelligence changing.
Mq's theory expects that super high-end females usually have late onset puberty. Maybe there is some data somewhere correlating 23 year old intelligence with age at puberty or maybe a better guide would be eruption of last wisdom tooth. Yes, I think I'll go with eruption of wisdom tooth as best correlation rather than puberty onset.
The same applies to males.
I might put it to Griffe that he could investigate that theory if you can't find anything wrong with it.

PS: I should hasten to add in case anyone thinks me sexist for even discussing this, that I firmly believe women should be treated as human and not as second class citizens [even though they can't read maps and always want to stop and ask for directions]. They should even be allowed to vote and own property. How broad-minded is that?!! Heck, some of my best friends are women! Even my wife and daughters are women!! Talk about broad-minded and tolerant. I'm sure they'll love looking after me in my dotage. Emily [daughter] promises to hose me down once a week whether I need it or not and throw food on the lawn regularly. |
