We've family who live near Boise....They LOVE it! Actually in Eagle....Very healthy environment, all sorts of outdoor activities, especially if you love river rafting... Don't know if they have a State income tax, don't think so, but in general their taxes are a good deal lower than here....Lots of house for the money....nice people there! Hot in the summer, lots of sunshine, cold in winter, with snow. No ocean close, unfortunately....
They like McCall near Sun Valley too...
Idaho income tax was near 8% when I lived there.
Property values in McCall and in Sun Valley's Ketchum have shot up over the past 10 years. Ditto for Northern Idaho's Coeur d'Alene, Hayden and Sandpoint. Don't know about Boise.
I was in McCall last about 4-5 years ago. I was driving from Las Vegas to our (then) home N of Coeur d'Alene (Hayden Lake) and stayed on secondary roads the entire route except for a short run from Reno heading East to hiway 95N. In Boise we switched to hiway 55 to drive up the river. Hiway 55 from Boise to McCall is one of America's most scenic drives....but would not recommend it in winter. We were living in Hayden when you and I and our spouses met at the DAR meeting in Seattle.
The only McCall, Idaho I know is located North of Boise, is a full day's drive from Sun valley and fronts Payette Lake. I know several folks with homes there. They consider McCall a summer resort. There is a ski slope just outside McCall. Can't recall the name, but it is no where near Sun Valley. There is a private airfield just S of McCall with long rows of small hangers. Private aircraft are a favorite way to get there.
About 25 miles west of McCall, Tamarack is being developed into a high dollar ski and winter/summer resort. It is even further away from Sun Valley. |
