In World War II, the way the American army regarded the German army was quite different from the way it regarded the Japanese army. The treatment that could be expected if an American fell prisoner was certainly different, and it influenced the attitude. It is a novel interpretation of the laws of war, that one side should not be influenced at all by the behavior of the other side.

I would be interested to know if there is any comment from those who interrogated Japanese prisoners.
