My town has a lot of mature silver maples. A number of them are right around the 100 year mark and they're beautiful trees. Unfortunately, when they get to be that age, they start to rot inside. Neighbors had to pay $1,000 to take down their maple after a huge branch fell and they realized it was decaying.

I have two huge sycamores (also known as Plane trees) in my side yard, and they appear to be very healthy.
