Not true. Your real estate tax bill is based on the assessed value of the house. Most municipalities are on a 4 year revaluation cycle, which means your valuation gets adjusted every 4 years. Value can be a function of square footage, but a 2500 square foot rambler and a 2500 square foot two story with identical values would have the same tax bill.
