The pine trees in Colorado (and elsewhere) are in danger of completely disappearing, due to the pine beetle. Article in the paper a couple months ago suggested the only way to get rid of the beetle was total forest destruction by fire... or until they eat themselves out of habitat. They are well on their way to doing just that.
