Iran to Hold Talks With IAEA Tuesday

Voice of America, 7 October 2007

Iran says it will hold another round of talks with U.N. nuclear experts this week to answer questions about its disputed nuclear program.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said Sunday the talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will take place Tuesday in Tehran.

He says the two sides will discuss Iranian plans to develop advanced centrifuges that enrich uranium more efficiently than Iran's current technology.

Iran reached a deal with the IAEA in August to resolve the U.N. agency's remaining questions about past Iranian nuclear activities by December. The agreement does not require Iran to suspend the current expansion of its uranium enrichment facilities.

Following the deal, major world powers decided not to impose further sanctions on Iran until at least November to see if the agreement with the IAEA produces results.

The United States and its allies accuse Tehran of trying to build atomic weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran denies the charge
