"The troops are given information that's accurate about the threat they're going to confront." That maybe so in the context of on-the-ground warfare. But the reason for going to war, and you can ask any vet from Iraq that was there from the start, it was to stop Iraq from using its WMDs or nukes on America. They were all told Iraq was a threat to America, plain and simple... They were all led to believe that the threat was "imminent." Hey man, go to any veterans hospital, go to the cafeteria or just sit on a bench outside one of them and engage in a conversation with anyone of them poor armless or legless guys, and they'll tell you exactly what I'm saying to you now.
