Al and Tim, Thanks guys, your conjecture as to the price GTE will get on a take out/merger etc seems well thought out. As for me I have no idea how they go about assessing a fair value on companies in Telecom industry ,wish I knew more about how they did it on MCI/Worldcom deal. Much obliged for the input.
