Carl, that is what I had heard....AMAT was interested in TRKN's etch technology....which would have meant the breakup of TRKN. I guess they were not prepared to do that, so the deal fell thru.

I don't think that any smart acquirer would want to buy TRKN for it's sales....it's their oxide etch technology that they want. AMAT and LRCX have hit road blocks in this area and desperately need a breakthru to get them beyond the current limitations of around .3u.

With INTC and other looking for 300mm, .25u and below technology, neither AMAT nor LRCX has anything to put forward for oxide. At this point it seems that TRKN holds the holy grail, but they need time to get it into production at 200mm and develop a 300mm tool. From what I have heard....they should have a 300mm oxide tool for demos by year end that is capable of .18u. Others cannot get to .25u at 200mm let alone 300mm.

But hey...that's technology talk....put this technology in the hands of an AMAT or LRCX....and watch it sell like hot cakes.
