"The general population is faithful, so even if you change leadership to something that is friendly to America with more liberal laws, you don't automatically get a secular government void of religious influence. " A country free of terrorists in high office would be an improvement. Leadership who denies learning the lessons of history would be an improvement. It just makes me sick every time I think about it that Jimmy Carter created the mess in the first place. There don't seem to be many end games that result in a peaceful transition of power to a democratic leadership in Iran.
