VIASPACE CEO PRESENTATION AT INTERNATIONAL FUEL CELL WORKSHOP
PASADENA, Calif., October 10, 2007 - VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC - News) CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen gave an invited presentation at the New Energy Solutions International Workshop in Tours, France on October 9, 2007. The workshop focused on fuel cells and new energy sources in the micro watt to kilowatt range. Dr. Kukkonen's presentation was entitled "Fuel Cells and Fuel Cartridge Infrastructure for Micro Fuel Cell Powered Portable Electronics."
The workshop addressed new fuel cell and battery power sources for portable electronics with increased performance and reduced environmental impact such as greenhouse gas emissions and use of heavy metals.
Dr. Kukkonen commented, "There is a lot of new activity on fuel cells in Europe. This is driven by their desire to be as "green" as possible. Recently we have been working hard in Asia, but Europe also represents a significant international market."
VIASPACE subsidiary Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation produces disposable methanol fuel cartridges that provide the liquid energy source for fuel cells that produce electricity for portable electronic devices such as notebook computers and mobile phones. These disposable cartridges represent a recurring revenue stream similar to printer cartridges or razor blades. The cartridges are made of recyclable materials, but international regulations state that they should not be refillable by the consumer for safety reasons. Several international companies such as Toshiba and Samsung have demonstrated notebook computers, cell phones and other devices powered by direct methanol fuel cells. A notebook computer running on methanol could have 10 hours of uninterrupted operation, and instantaneous recharging by simply replacing the empty cartridge with a new one.
