The unemployment data derived from the household survey in no way depend upon the eligibility for or receipt of unemployment insurance benefits.
We agreed on that.

Maybe Karen can. She's probably more used to cutting through that crap than either of us.

I do remember that back in the '70s, under Nixon, I believe, there was a change in the calculation method that had the effect of decreasing the unemployment rate.

This, you have to admit, has exactly the effect of lowering unemployment rate:

Now, unless you can unravel how BLS actually calculates the unemployment rate, let'sdrop it. It's off topic.
