OT - OK, I need some knowledge here. I want to dye two beige cushion covers red. So, my office boy (don't ask...) got some red dye from the art shop, and a bag of stuff that looks like salt, and here's his instructions from the shopkeeper.

1. Fill tub with water.
2. Put dye in tub
3. Disolve salt into the tub
4. Put cushions in for 6 hours.

That's it. He says the salt is so that when I wash the cushions the red dye runs less than it otherwise would.

So......any tie dye experts out there that know whether that sounds accurate? Anything else I should do involving dying cushions? Any advice is appreciated as I realize it's entirely possible that I wind up somehow turning my entire wardrobe and half the house red if I screw this up.

TIA
