this is a great excuse when one actually screws the pooch, no?

"well, bob, maybe if i didn't do those steroids i would've been hit by a car instead of going to jail for 6 months"

or,

"well, dave, if i didn't finance that dog fighting ring, maybe a hurricane would've destroyed florida."

i think the point you miss is that one can reach reasonable conclusions, even if one can't know the end outcome of all scenarios with dead on accuracy. the more information, the more reasonable one's conclusions can be.

we must live in different worlds or read different newspapers, b/c the more information i get, the more reasonable it is to conclude bush is a total incompetent idiot for taking us to war and hanging the fallen out to dry.
