Apple's had that dream for a LONG time! I used to be a big Mac fan - I was one of the early adopters of the original Mac, and have owned several. As a software engineer, I had to go PC - that's where 90% of the market is.

Windows finally became good enough that there's just not that much difference between them now. I have very little trouble going from one to another and using them productively.


I suspect you're right but at the same time Jobs has created a product with a very strong market identity. MAC penetration of the PC market can be just a couple of percentage points per year and still have an impact on the stock. And with the I-phone, I-pod etc, that makes the AAPL stock very appealing.
